Day
Time Swordfish Fishing Miami |
|
|
Miami has a very unique fisheries available to the experienced angler
who wants the rare opportunity to catch a Swordfish during the day.
Day time Swordfish fishing is a very specific style of fishing with very
little by catch.
These amazing powerful giants of the deep sea spend their days in
1800' to over 2000 foot of water living in a completely dark
environment, searching close to the bottom for their next meal. We
have developed techniques to place a Swordfish bait near the bottom
almost 2000 foot down, in a up to four knot Gulf Stream current. |

Capt. Jay with a 100lb
Swordfish |
|
Your Day Time Swordfish fishing trip will start out by heading offshore.
We will search for Dolphin (Mahi Mahi) or other pelagic fish on our
travels. Our final destination is about 20 miles off shore above
the drop of the continental drop. The bottom will plummet more
than a thousand feet on a mostly vertical wall in to more than 2000 feet
of water |
| |
|
Our technique is to put two baits on two separate leaders on one rod.
At these depths we are only able to fish one rod down deep. The
line that we use is only 80lb spectra although we will need at least
12lb - 20lbs of weight to keep the bait in the strike zone.
Electric reels are used primarily because of the depth of the water &
the weight needed to hold position. We can use normal hand
operated 80 Penn Internationals if you desire, but that makes for a long
day.
The bait of choice is Bonito belly, squid, mullet & other medium to
large baits. Stomach content analysis of fish that we and others
have caught tell us that these giant fish are feeding on small and
medium bait fish, so we try to "match the hatch" |

| The name of the game is waiting for that one right bite!
The Swordfish that you may catch are usually about 100lbs to over
300lbs. The smaller fish are just not targeted using these
methods. If you are an experienced angler looking to finally catch
the most elusive fish in the ocean, lets try a day time Swordy trip, or
just looking for a great adventure this is the trip for you! |
